In an effort to ensure the safety of girl students in today's online world, the Tamil Nadu School Education Department has launched the Agal Vilakku scheme on 09 August 2025 for girl students of classes 9-12. Under the scheme, the state has allocated Rs 50 lakh for implementation in all higher secondary schools. On this occasion, awareness booklets prepared by the State Council of Educational Research and Training were distributed to all the girl students. Under this initiative, committees of teachers and students will identify the problems of the students and suggest solutions.

TN Agal Vilakku Scheme 2025 Objective
The main objective of launching TN Agal Vilakku Scheme 2025 is to protect girl students of class 9-12 from mental, physical and social challenges, with special focus on cyber safety. In addition, sessions will be conducted by teachers trained in career guidance through the District Institute of Education and Training. These teachers will also be given additional training to raise awareness about safe internet use and protection from cyber threats. Psychological counseling will also be provided under the program.

Explaining the emotional choice of Pudukkottai for the launch of the scheme, the Minister said it was in honour of Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy, a pioneer of women's education and empowerment. Addressing the media, the Minister said the scheme emphasises on safe and responsible use of the Internet.
A 30-page booklet was prepared under the scheme
The 30-page booklet mentions 10 rules for safe internet use for students. These include blocking people who persistently harass you, reporting cyberbullying, filing complaints of cyber crimes, limiting daily mobile and internet usage, and changing settings to prevent taking screenshots, etc.
