Andhra Pradesh minister K. Parthasarathy announced on August 6 that the state government will launch a free bus travel scheme for women from August 15, 2025. Let me remind you, free bus travel for women was also a major election promise of the ruling Chandrababu Naidu government. The scheme has been named 'Stree Shakti'. Its estimated annual expenditure will be Rs 1,942 crore (about Rs 162 crore per month). The aim of this scheme is to empower women by providing better facilities for education, employment and transportation.
Andhra Pradesh Free Bus Travel Scheme Launch Date
Free Bus Travel Scheme will be launched by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on 15 August 2025. After this, women will start getting the benefit of free travel in the bus. Women will only have to show their Aadhar card, voter certificate or ration card for free bus travel under the scheme.

Objective of Andhra Pradesh Free Bus Travel Scheme 2025
The main objective of launching the Free Bus Travel Scheme 2025 by the Andhra Pradesh government is to empower women by providing better facilities for education, employment and transportation. Under the free bus travel scheme, women, girls and transgenders will be provided the opportunity to travel free of cost in APSRTC buses from anywhere to anywhere. Under Free Bus Travel Andhra Pradesh, women can travel in Palle Velugu, Ultra Palle Velugu, City Ordinary, Express and Metro Express buses across the state.

- Free bus travel for women in the state under the scheme will begin from Independence Day, August 15, 2025.
- Under the free bus travel scheme, women, girls and transgenders will be provided the opportunity to travel free of cost from anywhere to anywhere in APSRTC buses.
- Under the scheme, women can travel in Palle Velugu, Ultra Palle Velugu, City Ordinary, Express and Metro Express buses across the state.

- The state has a population of 5.25 crore, of which 2.62 crore are women.
- Women will be provided free travel in 74 per cent of the state's buses, 6,700 buses.
- The scheme will cost Rs 162 crore per month and Rs 1,942 crore per year.
- The free bus travel scheme will benefit about 26.95 lakh women in the state every day.

- Only women who are natives of Andhra Pradesh state will get the benefit of this scheme.

- Andhra Pradesh Free Bus Travel Scheme is also not applicable on contracted carriage services, chartered services and package tours.
